Self-Paced Courses for Athletes
If you’re interested in purchasing courses for your team, please contact drsarnell@gmail.com for team pricing.
This course provides an introduction to core mental skills for athletes. It offers frameworks for understanding your mental game and the impact of anxiety, and then goes into core skills: energizing and relaxation techniques, thinking strategies, goal setting, visualization, self-care and performance routines. The lessons are designed to provide key information in a short period of time, so you can work on this course whenever you have 15 minutes to spare.
What's your level of confidence when you perform at your best? For many athletes, their best performances occur on their most confident days. This course teaches you how to create the conditions for confidence, so you can capture this feeling more consistently. You'll learn about the pillars of confidence, and create a plan to improve your confidence level in a meaningful and repeatable way.
Being in the moment is an essential skill for an athlete, but there are times when it's really difficult. This course provides an introduction to mindfulness that includes meditation exercises to train your brain to be more present moment focused. Beyond mindful meditation, this course teaches skills that enhance your ability to be in the moment by giving you tools for dealing with distracting thoughts and ways of connecting with your purpose.
This bundle gives you access to all three courses: Core Mental Skills, Pillars of Confidence, and Mindfulness Skills for Athletes. It also includes the 3 bonus lessons for parents.
Who are these courses for?
These courses are for athletes who want to learn sport psychology skills at their own pace. These courses were created primarily for college and high school athletes. For high school athletes, parents can enroll them in a course and work through the course with them or find other ways to support their use of the course.
These course may also be a fit for advanced youth athletes being guided by their parents throughout the course. For youth athletes, parents must enroll in the course themselves with their own email address and then login with their child. The first lesson in the 3 lesson parent course talks about ways of working through the courses with your child.
For elite adult athletes, these courses could serve as a good refresher of core mental skills, with worksheets that can help you devise an organized mental game plan.
How long are the videos?
The videos are brief and they’re designed to be digestible so that you can fit these courses into your busy schedule. Videos range from about 1 minute to 5 minutes long. Each lesson is designed to take about 10-15 minutes, which includes watching the video and completing any worksheets.
Are these courses for individuals or teams?
Both! If you’re interested in purchasing this course for your team, please contact drsarnell@gmail.com for team pricing.
Are the courses about one sport in particular?
The courses are designed with all sports in mind. Dr. Sarnell gives examples during the courses, and uses lacrosse and rowing for many of the examples. The worksheets are created in a way that you can consider how the examples can apply to your own sport and reflect on how you’ll apply the strategies to your sport.
Can I use these courses alongside one-on-one sessions?
These courses are a great supplement to one-on-one sessions. For some athletes, it can be a good fit to work through this course while having check-in sessions with Dr. Sarnell every few weeks to review the material, answer any questions, and help tailor the strategies to your individual goals.
