Q: How long does it take to get an appointment?

A: I will make every effort to see you as soon as possible. Please email (drsarnell@gmail.com) for more information.

Q: How long is each session and what is the fee?

A: Individual sessions are typically 45-minutes and the fee is $275. Alternative fee structures may be available depending on the services you’re interested in, so please inquire for specific fee information. If my services feel like a good fit, reach out to discuss options to make this feel feasible for you.

Dr. Sarnell is an out of network provider.

Q: Do you also work with clients who don’t participate in sports or whose concerns are outside of their sports?

A: Yes, in addition to being a sport psychologist, I am a clinical psychologist and work with clients with a wide variety of concerns, including anxiety, mood disorders, and disordered eating.

Q: How often will we meet?

A: I provide sessions as frequently as they are needed for each individual situation. The majority of clients are seen once a week, but some are seen at a different frequency, depending on the nature of the concern. At your initial appointment, we will talk about this in more detail to come up with a plan that’s right for you.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: The length of treatment varies a great deal depending on many factors. Some concerns can be resolved in just a few sessions, while others take longer.

Q: Can I use my insurance?

A: Although I do not accept insurance directly, your insurance company may reimburse you for a percentage of therapy fees as an out-of-network provider (This only applies to psychotherapy sessions and not sport performance consultation). I will provide you with a statement suitable for submitting to your insurance company should you choose to file claims on your own, and the insurance company would then reimburse you directly. Please remember that reimbursement is considered a matter between you and your insurance company. Always check with your insurance company directly for questions about your coverage and out-of-network benefits. If you'd like to find out whether your insurance company would reimburse you for the cost of therapy with me, I encourage you to contact your insurance company.  Questions that you might ask your insurance company include:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a licensed psychologist?

  • If so, what percentage do you cover?

  • What is the deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met?

  • What is the coverage amount for a 45-minute psychotherapy session?

  • How many sessions are covered, and in what time period?

  • How do I access the form(s) needed to submit a request for reimbursement?

  • Do I need pre-authorization from a physician to come for treatment?

If you find that you have out-of-network benefits, I ask that you pay me directly, and I will provide you with a superbill, which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Pursuant to the federal No Surprises Act of 2022, patients in healthcare settings must be advised of the insurance status of their providers and agree to fees for service before services are provided.

  • Dr. Sarnell is considered an out-of-network provider, and does not participate in any insurance plans or sit on any insurance panels.

  • Clients provide full payment at the end of each session, and it is then the patient’s responsibility to submit claims to their own out of network benefits if they should wish to do so- for this submission, patients will receive a superbill (statement for insurance reimbursement) once/month.

  • Clients will receive a bill/receipt after each session reflecting the arranged & agreed fee for service for each service provided.

  • Fees for service have/had been discussed and agreed to by provider and patient with adequate time prior to initiation of therapy services.

  • Clients may inquire about fees and service codes with Dr. Sarnell at any time prior to, or throughout the course of treatment.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: I accept all major credit, debit, HSA, and FSA cards. I use an electronic billing system that stores information with bank-level data encryption technologies.

Q: What are your hours?

A: I have flexible availability, and offer evening appointments to accommodate after work and after school scheduling.

Q: What if I, or my child, needs to be evaluated for medication?

A: I am licensed and trained to practice therapy, and I do not prescribe medication. However, I often consult with physicians, psychiatrists, neurologists, and nurse practitioners, who can prescribe medication. With your permission, I can contact physicians that you already use, or we can assist in coordinating an appropriate referral.
